The Square Apartments are located at the corner of Shaffer and Grace Streets, seamlessly interwoven amid the VCU Monroe Park Campus. The concrete / steel structure consists of 121,917 rentable square feet including: 152 apartments, a fitness center, rooftop decks, and recreation space. The structure is comprised of two levels of cast-in-place concrete supporting 11 floors of load-bearing, light gage metal framing with concrete slabs on longspan metal decking, and vertical circulation cores with concrete shear walls.

The exterior cladding consists of aluminum storefronts and windows, aluminum composite panels, metal siding, brick veneer, and a thin-brick system with drainable backing panels. The apartment levels include exposed, decorative concrete floors and other unique finishes.
